Koji Kato
Born 1994, Koji received his BFA from Tama Art University in 2014, MFA from the Global Art Practice at Tokyo University of Arts in 2021. Also, he studied at Hongik Art University in Korea through an exchange program in 2016.
With a focus on video and painting, he creates social and political works based on encounters with historical narratives. Through his own filter, he reinterprets the stories of the past from a contemporary perspective and attempts to deconstruct the power structure from diverse perspectives.
He has exhibited his work in solo shows such as "The Way of Ticking" (TAMENTAI GALLERY TSURUMI Lab, Hiroshima), “Real Imaginary Travelogue” (AI KOKO GALLERY, Tokyo), “For Whom We Fight ”A Side”/ ”B Side”” (gallery G / THE POOL, Hiroshima),and in group shows such as "Re-Display: Instruction and Protocol"(The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo), “The Destined of the Earth” (BUoY, Tokyo), “Barrak: survibes Bangkok Biennial 2018” (White Line, Bangkok), “Openness?: The method of acquiring freedom” (Tokkaten|tochka, Tokyo).
